Copycat Makeover: Krispy Kreme Glazed Donuts and a Thank You

Filed Under: 50-100, Almond Milk, Copycat Recipes, Desserts, Eggs/Egg Whites/Egg Replacer, Recipe Makeover, Recipes, Vegan

By Kelly M 33 Comments Jump to Recipe

I want to start this post by thanking you.

I’m sorry I haven’t posted in a couple of days, but I wanted to say how moved my mom and I were by your beautiful comments on my last post. This certainly has been a difficult time in both of our lives, but it’s wonderful and supportive people like you that make it easier. Thank you.

But actions speak louder than words, right?

I can say thank you over and over again for the entirety of this post, but that would unproffesional.

And as you know, we’re all about professionalism here.

I’m so professional I spelled unproffesional wrong.

Cuz’ that’s how I roll.

So to stick to my undying professionalism, I must tell you about donuts.

Because everyone know that donuts= professionalism,.

But I really came to say thank you.

And I brought donuts.

Copycat Makeover: Krispy Krem Glazed Donuts (Vegan, Low Cal, Fat Free)

Okay, I didn’t really know what to glaze these with as I had never liked the idea of those super sugary icings. Half cup of sugar for a teaspoon of liquid? Gross.

I had a little bit of leftover batter, and really, who doesn’t like to eat cake batter? So I decided to glaze the donuts with the leftover cake batter. Cake batter glazed donuts? Amazing.

Makes about 12 mini or six regular-sized donuts

Adapted from Averie, Katie, and my last recipe

Ingredients

1c. all purpose flour

1/3c. sugar

1 1/2t baking powder

1/4t salt

1 1/2t ener-g egg replacer

1/4t cinnamon

1/2t vanilla

2/3c. almond milk

1/2t apple cider vinegar

Preheat your donut maker or your oven to 350F.

Mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, egg replacer, and cinnamon. Add vanilla, almond milk, and apple cider vinegar and stir to combine.

Scoop into your donut maker and cook for about 5 minutes, into a donut pan in the oven at 350F for 8-11 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Make sure you have a significant amount of batter leftover to glaze with.

After they’ve mostly cooled on a wire rack, dip the donuts in the leftover batter.

I guess of you really wanted to, you could do this in a muffin pan and bake for 15 minutes. But if you don’t have a donut maker/pan, get one.

Today.

Oh, and my apologies to the Krispy Kreme people.

Enjoy!

-Kelly M.

The texture of those looks so good; I can imagine the taste! I haven't got a doughnut pan but might have to get one - Christmas list, I reckon! Great idea icing them with more batter too, I like your style :-)

The Christmas list is growing... or you could just come over and play with my donut maker. P.S. I like your style, too. ;) Have you seen the name of your blog? You're awesome.

These look soooo good! I've been seeing donut recipes everywhere and made finding a donut pan one of my priorities! But, not even walmart sells them. So frustrating! Making donuts in a muffin pan just aint the same ya know?

I feel for you. I just jumped on the donut bandwagon, and I ain't going back. But, I wonder if you could make them more donut-y by baking them in a muffin pan and then cutting out the center? You would even get donut holes!

OMG.... the glaze on the moist doughnuts make me want to dunk one into a cup of coffee and enjoy it!! I am a huge fan of the Krisy Kremes. It;s a long time since we had a Krispy Kreme 'sale' at work:)

Mmm! I love the coffee and donuts idea! We used to have Krispy Kreme "sales" at school, but I think it's a blessing in disguise there hasn't been one at school lately. I mean I love Krispy Kremes, but not so much the stomach ache I get afterwards. ;)

Ok, I just got a Target gift card. I think I know what I'm getting! I've been horrifically behind on my blog reader, so I just saw your previous post. Hang in there sweet girl, you are doing the right thing. I've been in a similar situation with my mom, though it wasn't related to health. It's hard, but it really does expand your emotional threshold. If you ever need to talk, please shoot me a note! And yes, we need to get together sometime!

You had my at Krispy Kreme. I sometimes run by a store in the morning and it's all I can do not to stop and beg for a freebie (I don't run with money - it's forced self-control). I'm going to have to buy a doughnut pan now.

I LOVE THIS! I will be buying a donut pan or donut maker soon. I actually scaled it down to a sixth of the recipe and then baked it in a ramekin. It came out a pancake size disc. I topped it with the batter and then some coconut. It was the perfect dessert :D THANK YOU

I always loved Krispy Kremes, but the last time I had one I felt sick -- I think I'm not used to eating THAT much sugar at one time. lol. One or two bites is good for me. Yours look so cute and I'm sure would not have that same negative effect!

Are these airy like the regular donuts? I am searching for a recipe that makes them with a yeast donut like texture like Krispy Kreme does

Yes, these are indeed light and airy. Not exactly like traditional fried donuts because they are baked, but pretty darn close.

Hi there! I just made doughnuts last night and wasn't quite happy with them and am eager to try your recipe, it looks like you have a lot of great recipes on your blog, I tried your peanut butter cookies - delish! Anyways, can I use egg whites rather than the ener g egg replacer? Also, I'm assuming it's 1 1/2 Tablespoons of the egg? Please let me know if that's right. Thank you :)
