The Magic Number and Thank You!

Filed Under: About, Giveaway, Giveaway Winners

By Kelly M 41 Comments Jump to Recipe

I but your couldn’t guess how old I was.

Was I right? Or were you?

Well…

I was right.

No one was even close. The closest guess was seven years off. The four closest winners will still win their stuff, and I’ll name them at the end of the post. WAIT!!!

Before you scroll down, do want to find out how old I am?

Any final guesses?

Okay.

I’m thirteen, guys. Thirteen years old.

I’m in middle school.

Stop laughing.

Please don’t leave! You must be thinking how unqualified I am. How it should be criminal that I give advice on food and health.

But remember, I still did lose forty pounds. Does the fact that I was twelve when I did it really make a difference?

I hope my age doesn’t creep you out. Your probably wondering why I tried so hard to lose weight before I was even a teenager, but I’ve battled with some self-image issues.

I’d like to think that those days are over, and for the most part, they are. unfortunately, I still have days where I stand in front of the mirror and scrutinize my every flaw. Or have to remind myself not to starve.

So I can’t tell you how much your compliments on my picture mean to me. Thank you.

And while I’m thanking you, I have the great honor to say my dear friend Catherine at Happiness After Heartache has honored me with the Liebster Blog Award!

The Liebster award is given to bloggers who have less than 200 followers, all in the spirit of fostering new connections.

Liebster is a German word that means “dearest” or “beloved”, but it can also mean “favorite”, and the idea of the Liebster award is to bring attention to blogs with less than 200 followers. Please write a post about the award.  Then pass the award on to at least 5 (or more) bloggers.

The Rules are:

  1. Show your thanks to the blogger who gave you the award by linking back to them.
  2. Reveal your top 5 (or more) picks for the award and let them know by leaving a comment on their blog.
  3. Post the award on your blog.
  4. Bask in the love from the most supportive people on the blogosphere – other bloggers.
  5. And, best of all – have fun and spread the karma.

I would like to nominate the following blogs.  But I have to add, it’s hard to pick because it’s hard to tell how many followers they have!  Hopefully I’m following the rules and only picking those with less than 200.  If I nominate you and you have more, don’t take it as an insult!

Eleanor @ Eating Like a Horse

Gillian @ When Bread is Broken

Mimi @ Gingersnaps

Cathy @ 1970 Kiki Project

Liz @ A Tablespoon of Liz

I had to be a bit unorthodox when picking the winner of the giveaway, becaus etere were four winners and a bunch of people guesses the same age. So here’s how I went about. The people who were closest were Amy @ Healthy, Hungry Happy and Eleanor @ Eating Like a Horse . The guesses 20. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga guessed 22, but she hinted at 12, so I went with it. There was a tie for fourth place, so I used a random number generator to break the tie and came up with Kim @ Eat, Live, Blog. Congrats to the winners! Shoot me an email and we’ll get you your loot.

P.S. Too much linking for one post.

Omg...I am in shock! You're...a minor! And not even by a little bit. By 5+ years til you're even 18. Thanks for the win, I appreciate it, Kelly. And I just want to make sure you keep your head screwed on VERY STRAIGHT with this stuff. You are playing in a big girl world (or big boy world) and not everyone is nice or honest or kind and so please, please just be smart and be safe...you always strike me as such but you're just...a babe and now that I know that I'm practically old enough to be your mother I am instantly more protective of you!!!

You are an angel Averie. Truly. It's really easy to just assume everyone around here is as wonderful as you, but that just isn't the case. I'll just shoot you an email! Averie Sunshine, my guardian angel. ;)

Wow, did not expect that answer, and it doesn't make me take you less seriously in the slightest; your writing's good and interesting and what you say makes sense, however old you are! And thank you very much, I'm really flattered by the award and very excited about the giveaway! I'll email straight away :-)

I had an inkling that you were younger, but I was going to guess like 18! Since everyone else was guessing in the 20's I was swayed. It's totally fine to be a younger blogger, in fact I think it adds a fresh perspective!

WOW! I am shocked, but, well, looking back at your photo, not so much... I do think that your maturity is what threw everyone off. However, looking back, I was (I think) just as mature as you are. And I definitely had plenty of weight and body image issues at 13. Ahem, still do at 25, actually. But kudos to you! I really wish I had known about blogging when I was 13. You're well on your way to coming an AWESOME adult (well, 5 years from now, anyway....). Congrats on being an awesome teen in the meantime! :)

Omigosh, you're only two years older than my little cousin! Wait... one year older, because he's 12 but I still think of him as 11 ;) But I have to admit, it's soo hard to find a 13-year old who's so mature and has excellent writing skills. My English degree is jealous :-D

I am also shocked at your age. Your wisdom, maturity and general knowledge about life in general is very misleading. I'm even suspicious that this isn't even a picture of you, you're lying to everyone about your age, and maybe you're even just a middle-aged man trying to trick everyone. LOL. :) But.....who cares!!! Your writing is you and it's great, no matter what age (or gender) you really are!

Kelly I cannot believe you are only thirteen (or possibly fourteen if your birthday has passed)! I had to check the date on this post to make sure it wasn't posted on April 1st! You are so incredibly articulate and gifted in the kitchen. I wish you the very best on all your endeavors! I have already bookmarked several of your recipes and am incredibly excited to try them! - a recent college graduate who is just starting to cook :)
