About Me

Why hello!

My name is Kelly and I am a fourteen fifteen sixteen seventeen eighteen nineteen (phew!) year old recipe developer born and raised here in sunny West Hollywood, CA.

Update: I am currently taking a year off between high school and college to work on Foodie! This means that I’m constantly in the kitchen making new recipes for you, so I hope you’re hungry.

Diet-wise, I’m a long time vegetarian*, and I’ve eaten low carb for the past few years and now bike 15-30 miles every day. I love my food/exercise lifestyle, and it has become second nature for me. I can still eat all the delicious food I want (that’s why I create the recipes I do!), and I get to stay in great shape. It takes a lot of trial and error, but it’s so worth it once you find what works for you.

*My mom is a vet, we like animals.

Back story time! When I was younger, I never felt comfortable in my skin. I was always made fun of for my weight, and was usually the social outcast of the group. So one day, I decided I was going to shed the weight I’d dreamed of losing my whole life. I wanted to be thin so badly that starving myself seemed like a very reasonable price.

Did it work? Sure. I lost 42 lbs. in three months going from 5’3” 159 lbs. to 5’4″ 117 lbs. But isn’t that fast?

WAY too fast. Take it from me, dear friend, please don’t do anything like this. I completely deprived myself during my weight loss, counting every calorie, and doing what I could to work it off. It ruined me emotionally and physically. It’s a vicious cycle that unfortunately affects far too many young women (and men!).

So when I reached my goal weight, I stumbled upon the food blogosphere, I realized there were people out there with stories just like mine who now lived happily with food. What?!?

It was a revelation.

So of course I had to start a blog immediately. So on June 10, 2011 at about 11:57pm, I made a Blogger account and slapped together a truly hideous website (which is kind of an offense to websites everywhere) that would eventually evolve into the Foodie Fiasco you see today. I had two readers. And half of them lived with me. (Hi Mom!)

Now that I’ve been at this awhile, I’ve found my niche in the kitchen. I really enjoy making scrumptious, healthy delites (tee hee) that are vegan, gluten free, grain free, sugar free, low calorie, low carb, and really, really fun to eat.

I found my love of food during my deprivation, actually. I loved cooking, and once I got into my food blogger’s mentality, I began to cook wonderful healthy food and loving every minute of it.

Unfortunately during that time, my mother was diagnosed with stage II breast cancer. This would be traumatic for anyone, but since we’re a two man band, it was especially difficult on us as there was, well, just us. So armed with my newfound love of healthy cooking to put food on the table, I decided to become the caregiver. But I was thirteen.

I’m nineteen and a lot has changed. Most of it good, but definitely some bad.

So let’s start with the good! I’m beyond thrilled and grateful that my little blog side project has become successful, and throughout the years it’s been an invaluable source of joy, meaning, and emotional support (from you guys because you’re the best and I love you!). I’m also very grateful to say I had an amazing high school experience that gave me lifelong friends.

So the bad news. Unfortunately, in 2013, my mother was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic breast cancer. I wrote a post as soon as I found out, so if you’re curious you can read it here, along with an update I wrote in my senior year. Between my mother’s illness and life in a very competitive private high school, I stepped away from Foodie for almost all of my junior and senior years. I love this blog, so I insisted on a gap year to make it great and spend time with what I love.

Speaking of what I love, I’m really happy I get this year with my mom. Unfortunately her health has gotten progressively worse, so any prayers/positive vibes would be extremely appreciated. Thank you.

Since it’s still just the two of us and I’m off to college next year, I’m now responsible for providing for my family and putting myself through school. So any income from this blog makes a huge impact. Your support, just by being here, means the world.

If you made it this far, bless you. I’m so happy to have you here, and I hope you stick around!

Great story and well done you! :) It must have been hard work! Self-deprivation is hard! I'm at the other end of the spectrum, if I stress I lose weight and often to an unhealthy weight for me as well (105 lbs). Being a vegetarian doesn't help probably. I've had to go to a nutrionist and count calories as well and drink special shakes to gain weight. I gained a good amount (15 lbs), then got stress again (at home with a burn-out so it's ups and downs) and lost half of what I had gained, within about a month. People often ask what I worry about because they think thin is good, but they don't see that the body gets issues as well when underweight. It means always feeling cold, losing above average amount of hair, serious lack of energy, pain in joints and muscles and other problems. Stress also gives intolerance of some foods, so that makes it extra hard to gain weight. I am now at a fairly healthy balanced weight but I am watching it as well constantly. Trying to add some muscle strength now! Anyway, it got me thinking about food as well and I discovered I love baking and making it look pretty. I love sharing food, because it can be something that makes people happy. But I want to be able to share it with friends and family who do have weight problems and the health issues that come with that. My mum for example gained 33 pounds after quitting smoking and her thyroid giving up. But she loves anything sweet. So I am hoping to find her healthy alternatives. Of course it's still got to be yummy, because otherwise food doesn't make happy! So after a loooong intro, what I am really wanting to say is, thanks for this blog and for these wonderful recipies! :) I'll recommend the blog on my facebook. :)

Hey! So, I just read the little "about me" and not lying when I say this, you basically just explained what I just went though in the past year and why I am even looking at these different food blog sites. I too always was unhappy with how I looked, and one day, decided to change. I have been able to lose of 60+ lbs and got into bodybuilding and my nutrition. Went on some VERY unhealthy diets, some where I would be eating less than 30 carbs a day and then every 7 days have one cheat meal (did that for about 2 1/2 months). The next diet was basically chicken and potatoes for about a month in a half, no cheat meals, and a three day carb cycle with my lowest day only consuming 1250 calories (I am 6ft tall ex-football player, so that is extremely too low). ANYWAY, it's probably not surprising after these cutting diets I had a little eating disorder and my view on food was really messed up (still kind of is). But it has also made me appreciate food like nothing else. I was to become a chef now (not as a career but more an intense hobby). I LOVE cooking healthy food that you couldn't guess was healthy haha. I just want to say thank you so much for sharing your story and I now realize I am not the only person who has gone through it as well. I am VERY excited to make the recipes you have given(I found this site by searching Google for "Low Carb Brownie" btw). =)

Hi! I just came across this blog earlier this week when I was looking for a recipe for homemade oreos (I've had like, an extreme craving lately but recently cut processed foods out of my diet) and absolutely fell in love! Everything you make here looks super good and I already have like 12 recipes printed out XD Not only does your food sound amazing, but you've also inspired me a ton. I'm 14 too, and just started a fashion blog over on tumblr. :) I was nervous at first, because I thought I was too young, too inexperienced, ect, but I saw that you're only 14, too, and have this amazing blog up and running and realized that you're never too young to start doing something you love. Well, that was corny. Anyway, thanks for inspiring me so much and if you ever need any fashion advice, feel free to stop by ;) ~Katy, MA PS- You're super lucky that you live in California. I would kill to live down there!

I have had a somewhat similar experience with food issues - I was never overweight, but not skinny - until I developed an eating disorder. Thankfully, I have have been in recovery for over a year now and my relationship with food has moved much closer to normal. Your story is so inspiring and I wish you the best of luck! -Phoebe

Hi Kelly! I am a 12 year old student currently in my second year of middle school. Last year (like 3 months ago) I went through my own weight loss experience. It was how many calories this and exercise that and again a not the way to spend your summer experience. But I was successful. I have officially lost 25 pounds from the beginning of August. And the weight had been kept off. I felt compelled to get healthier after coming back from the junior Olympics in Baltimore that summer. (I run track and am proudly nationally ranked) Haha as you can tell I am none so ever humble. Anyways, I took 7th out of 34 in the pentathlon but all the girls who beat me I realized were all lean stalks of muscle. And I alas was a semi in shape pile of mush. So I made a change. I ate whole foods, none processed. By the way Trader Joe's became my best friend. I also discovered a love of cooking and baking. I found it so invigorating to find new healthier Recipies. And the weight just kind of rolled off. Now I am the skinny one in my family. My grandmother keeps threatening to take into McDonald's if I lose another ounce. I recently discovered Foodie Fiasco and am loving every bit of it. Thank you so much for such an awesome blog! Your really inspiring and hilariously funny. Sincerely Yours, Jackie M.

Hi Kelly! I'm a student of the 7th grade in the Bay Area. I recently discovered Foodie Fiasco and I can't get enough of it! Your such an inspiration and I love your recipies! I recently went through my own weight loss experience over the summer. I run USATF track and competed in the pentahalon at the jnior olympics in Baltimore in July. I placed 7th out of 32 and medaled (1st-8th medal) Though, throughout the entire competion I came to realize that every girl who placed in front of me was at least 20 pounds plus lighter. So when me and my family retured home I went all healthy phyco. It was counting calories and ab exercises for 2 months. By September I had lost 20 plus pounds. And its still going. I found to eat more natural whole foods. And it helped. I also discovered a love of bakingand cooking during my little adventure. My mom says I'm the only person who learns who to bake and LOSES weight. I wish you good health and spirits and keep baking sista! Sincerely, Jackie M.

Hi Kelly, I came across your site when looking for a Sunday brunch idea. You are amazing! What a gifted, talented, conscious, bright person you are...and 14 (or maybe 15 by now)? Wow! As a naturopath and holistic psychotherapist who deals with thyroid, autoimmune (and Hashimoto's), weight loss, anxiety and depression daily with my patients, and as a clinician who often recommends patients go dairy, grain, soy and sugar free, and as a person who eats that way myself and is always creating recipes for myself and for my clients/patients....I so appreciate what you are doing and what you have created here! (As a former junior high school teacher, I must agree with the other teacher who commented on how bright and talented you are)! You actually remind me of myself at your age. ;-) My practice is in Valencia and my email address is Elena@DrElena.com so stay in touch with me. Maybe we could even work on a project together. Now, I am going to try those coconut flour pancakes with some fresh blueberries in them and my own "adjustments" (I rarely follow a recipe exactly...guess it's that creative part of me)! Keep up the great work you are doing, Kelly. And I would have given you an A+++ on this if you were my student back when I was teaching! In health, Dr. Elena ;-)

Kelly, I stumbled upon your site when my daughter posted your mac and cheese on FB for her vegan brother. I pinned it and can't wait to try it. I am 61, a teacher and now a gluten free, low carb and part-time vegan for all sorts of health reasons. I was surprised to learn your age and the skill/ intelligence of your site. I am going to try all sorts of recipes from this site and I am so glad to be able to communicate with you so you can give me help along my path: 16 lbs in 2 weeks. God love you, Kelly. Mary

I just want to say that I was in your shoes 10 years ago and I'm so happy to see that you've come to grasps with this yo-yo relationship with food that so many people haven't been able to and I still struggle with sometimes. When my friend on facebook shared your coconut flour pancake recipe and I read your blog I thought I was reading a post by someone around our age, and if she shared your post and she said it was delicious then I know that I can't WAIT to try a bunch of your recipes :) Keep up the great work and don't ever stop experimenting and believing in yourself. <3 much love from the midwest!

Hi I’m a 14 year old girl from NY and I found your website so inspiring!! I LOVE cooking, but I can never seem to find good low-calorie recipes. (Usually they are just regular recipes with smaller portions.) My parents refuse to get dessert in stores because they think homemade is better. I can’t believe I found such a great full site made by someone my age! Now I can eat whatever I want :) Keep posting. You’re awesome.

Hi Kelly. Just found your site and it looks really interesting. While I've been a vegetarian for a long time I'm new to the wheat free, low glycemic world and trying to find things my kids will like. I look forward to trying your recipes. Frankly, I can't believe you're only 14. You write in such a professional manner and your recipes are very unique (and look delicious) and if you have been taking these photos of your food yourself your work is amazing! Keep it up little Renaissance girl.

Hey! I just found your blog looking for vegan coconut flour recipes, this is awesome! First of all, wow, you do not sound 14 at all, you're so mature and seem to live a much more "grown up" lifestyle. I just have a few questions. First, do you do a lot of cooking for your family? How is it you sound so independant at 14? Also, while I LOVE your recipes, seriously, they all sound delicious, I think low carb or low fat has its place in moderation along with healthy fats and carbs. Is there any reason you eat this way? And do you eat this way all the time? I've had my own eating issues in the past so these kinds of restrictions or more limiting diets raise red flags. I know there are medical conditions or maybe someone older who needed to really revamp their lifestyle it would be ok to go low carb or low fat for a very limited time, but most body's cannot live on that for extended periods, and you're so young! Young AND healthy, and still growing! So, I hope that doesn't come off as judge-y ! I'm honestly just curious since I obviously just found your blog and don't really know much, and also just going from my own experience because I would not wish all of those struggles on anyone or even the temptations to place more limitations on yourself once recovered that I still have to shut up from time to time.

Hey Kelly! Congrats on your dramatic weight loss! (Sorry, I am really late to this site) I am so happy for you because you have now adopted SUCH a great healthy diet! I am just wondering, how much do you weigh now? (if you don't mind saying) I am just curious, because super fast weight losses are really hard to maintain, but you somehow managed to do it! Congratulations! :D

Hi Jessica! Sorry for the delay, and thank you so much for your kindness. You are absolutely right: fast weight losses are difficult to maintain. Honestly, I don't know how much I weigh now. I go to an RD about once a month who weighs me and moderates any changes, but doesn't give me a number. It's best for my sanity. I have put on a few pounds from my lowest weight of 117, but that is really healthy for me (I was too thin). Thanks again!

Wow, I feel that I can relate to your story. In an attempt to lose weight I deprived myself and would always count all my calories and never go over. Even after I had lose my desired weight, I wasnt happy because I was too focused on keeping the weight off than enjoying life. I now realize that food should not be the centre of my life and if I take it easy and go with the flow, everything will turn out right. And, it has!

Thanks for adding up the calories to all your recipes, it's super helpful. I spend so much time out of the day counting calories, especially when creating new recipes, so this saves me a lot of time. And I love the diversity of your recipes, I get a lot of inspiration, and I was first brought to your site because of your almond butter recipe, but I'll def be coming back for more ideas! Counting cals is really new for me, I'm only a week in, and the results have been great. I just really hope I keep up with it, and I think your recipes will really help me through this. So Thank You!

Thank you so very much for your kindness, Kelli! I'm glad my calorie counts have helped. I don't want to go all commando on you, but please just make sure you're eating enough. Caloric restriction can be effective for a little while, but then your body starts to think your starving. I'm sure you're being smart about it, but just make sure to be careful.

The calorie counts on each post is an added bonus and is always incredibly low. Even though I am a recovering anorexic your website has proved the easiest and most helpful in terms of healthy and quick recipes that require on-hand ingredients! Every other website's recipes that try to be healthy and low carb/fat require complicated ingredients like chickpeas, pumpkin, beans, tofu etc. but yours are unbelievably easy!

Kelly, I've just recently lost 100 lbs since last May (weight watchers). I'm a fully grown adult, but started gaining at about your age, so I know the issues associated with judgement as a kid being overweight. Unfortunately I've passed the habits on to my now 16 year old. Your humor and drive remind me much of her! I was compelled to drop you a note of thanks because I feel like I'm searching here, there, everywhere on this huge web that seems so much larger than the world itself and have gotten so turned around trying to keep everything I want to pick from here and there in order. I want to actually eat healthy, not just low cal or low fat... etc. I've played with the idea of working with different styles of diet, vegan, vegetarian... I've recently warmed up to the Pescetarian diet and started searching again. Coming to your site I found your chickpea flour pasta and felt nearly as much joy as you did! I cannot wait to try it, I've seen a suggestion to buy canned chickpeas, dry them in an oven, then grind them in a coffee grinder (for convenience), which I may attempt. (Another suggestion was to make rice flour in the coffee grinder out of the instant brown rice... again though, you have to wonder what processing this stuff goes through to get it to that point, yeah?) This wonderful blog is now at the top of my file. I haven't even come close to looking at every recipe because each one I see I ponder so carefully I don't have that kind of time in the day! Thankfully there's this cool, newfangled thing called bookmarks lol Keep it up girl, you're going to exceed your dreams sooner than you think! I'm off to try your yeast bread YUM!

But that becomes more difficult when you want to binge on ALL of it. Thanks to all your low cal recipes I can now bake and have ONE cake/cookie without guilt, and even if I do eat more, there's no need to feel as guilty cause it's like 400 cals for the whole recipe compared to about 3000 for the whole recipe of normal baking! As a vegetarian/vegan-in-training, have you ever heard of the Gerson Therapy diet (I use the word "diet" loosely, as it is a holistic cancer treatment and wellness regime)? Hippocrates believed that we could heal our bodies with the food that we eat. Regardless of whether our diet can cure cancer or not, the raw foodism/vegan components are definitely worth taking a peek at. Stay BEAUTIFUL! u_u

I LOVE THIS BLOG it is perfect and I am actually basing my iHerb shopping list off of a lot of food/ingredients I see in your recipes. I've stumbled upon about 63759241 food blogs and this might just be my favorite. And also someone has probably already mentioned this, but just incase they didnt; in your healthy snicker doodles recipe you put the ingredients twice but didn't put instructions (unless I just didn't see them, in which case I was kidding the entire time)

WOW Kelly! It amazes me at such a young age you are so knowledgeable about your health and the food you eat. I am 28 almost 29 and after realizing all my digestive issues come down to the food I eat, I started to read books and search the web for information on what causes so many of our health problems. I am trying to get away from so much of what I grew up on and what's around me, it is a tough battle everyday, especially not having my own space to cook meals. I am looking forward to trying out some of your recipes. I need constant change in my meals or I get bored and give up so I am glad I stumbled on your website so I can try some new things out. I have noticed it is very hard to find recipes for vegetarian/vegan, gluten free, dairy free, and of course other things I am trying to stay away from. So thanks again for your new recipe inspirations, you are a true inspiration. <3

Hi Kelly, You have a wonderful recipes. I found your site because I was looking for Mound Bars. I like your all natural and great ingredients. There is one thing I have found that is not good for you and that is a Microwave. I was told by my Chiropractor to get rid of Microwave. Do a search on Microwave, I bet you will get rid of it. They are not even good to heat up water.

Congrats to both you and your mum for the recoveries, she sounds like a tough one too!! I sadly lost my nan to cancer when i was 19 she was 62 and then 2 years later lost my mum to cancer when i was 21, she was 47. So i can relate to the battle your family have gone through. I think you are fantastic and to be honest, your story bought tears to my eyes. Thanks for the amazing recipes - you're gonna take over the world some day i'm sure! xxx

Your story is so inspiring. I have suffered from an eating disorder multiple times in my life. I was cursed with a terrible metabolism and my weigh fluctuates if i stray the slightest bit from my low carb/low fat/low cal vegetarian diet. I was maintaing my goal weight which most people would consider underweight for someone of 5'8" but it was too hard to keep the weight off. My body was so deprived and craved nothing but sugar, salt, and fat. I've since come to realize that deprivation is not the answer and I hate to admit it but I still deprive myself a lot for fear of gaining any weight. I am extremely afraid of bread, sugar, fat but i am learning that a healthy diet needs more than just fruit and veggies. I am so glad to have found this blog, It gives me hope that I can still eat delicious foods but not feel guilty. So thank you for that! you're amazing.

Wow! Your story is amazing. I just stumbled upon your blog via Pinterest, and I am so impressed by your gorgeous blog, layout, photographs, and recipes! You have a truly beautiful blog here, and such an inspiring story! :) I love how you post recipes that are low in sugar; my ultimate goal in life is to completely take sugar out of my diet. (I love using Stevia and Xylitol, but not enough recipes call for them, and I'm rarely ambitious enough to experiment. haha!) I'm 16 and new to the blogsphere, and it always excites me to see other teens who are passionate about cooking and photography. I can't get over how beautiful your blog is! Do you still use Blogger as a host? Right now that is the host that I am on, and I hope to get a real domain name soon. Anyway, enough about me. :) I'm so happy to have found your wonderful blog! Hi Kelly, I stumbled upon your web site blog last night looking for peanut butter recipe that is healthier and less calories. Well here I am on your blog with ton of recipes that seem to be primarily gluten free, or grain free or low carb and not sure exactly what paleo is, but that too. First let me say, THUMBS lit lady, on your accomplishments with this recipe blog and finding a healthy way to get your weight in check to your liking! Us Women seem to really focus and worry about our tummys and weight overall. I think its handed down from society pressures, tv & stick thin models, and our own stress to be accepted by others and be more confident in ourselves! It can be very challenging to lose weight and we must not forget perhaps even harder to maintain it! With that said, personally I am 53 yrs young now, exercise often for since about 25 and feel good most days. However, us ladies go thru so many stages of life (menopause) and changes (eeek) and we have to educate ourselves thru it! I have for most part been at a good weight most my life at 5 ft 6-1/2 height. Then at 25 I had my son and gain alot & it took 9 months to lose it all by exercise and eating mostly lean meats, salads, vegts and very lit carbs! This is rigid and I do have a sweet tooth...so it was somewhat difficult to maintain, although i did take a leave 5 lbs...to shorten my story, seems at age 40 when women start challenging stages, our metabolism slows, our hormones racing, and somehow unless we have a good healthy low fat & low sugar diet, gain weight mostly around mid section/tummy! Not fat, but pudgy around middle NOT to most of our liking! So, I exercise and exercise but unless i make a tweek or change of eating lifestyle for long haul, this will be an on going battle for me and perhaps many other ladies in 40-50's range! Hoping and encouraged by your recipes i can eat tasty foods and cut down the fat & calories to shed my what I feel, the last STUBBORN 15 lbs hanging on to my lower belly & waist! Don't get me wrong, I feel good, but I know i have ability to look GREAT and feel better & more confident, even at age 53. Thanks so much for creating this recipe site that I will start to try often! We can eercise till the cows come home, but if we do not eat clean and healthy 90% time, the last stubborn belly/waist fat will hang on like a bad dream! lol Again, thanks alot and i have signed up for emailed recipes form you! I hope your Mother continues to have good days ahead for the long haul and I am sure it was very hard for you to go thru that cycle of her life with her! Prayers! I too have a Mother who sufferd a illness, hers was/is a brain aneuryism burst at age 65 and stroke like aftermath and she is only 69. Very hard time of her life and our family to see her go thru all that suffering and still today struggles with walking, talking and her quality of life. She is a fighter & still tries to rehab and overcome..Then my sister at age 48 suffered breast cancer, and all similar story like your mom and she is recovering now and awaiting to get reconstruction on one side. Sadly that was so sad and hurtful for her and our family too. Bottom line, I do feel some of what you went thru with your Mom and miracley your found a healthy outlet, here and sharing your healthy recipes with us to help us all stay focused on being healthier too!! ....God Bless and thank you. Sassy from Santa Cruz, Ca. :) YOU ROCK

Holy Cow, what have I stumbled across. I recently found that I have some major issues in my gut and Internal organs. I have to cut all this stuff out of my diet. I am seeing a Nutritionist and a Alternative medicine Doctor. I am 42 years old and from the South, changing my diet seems near impossible! Your recipes are just what the doctor called for. I have been on this new way of eating since January and have lost 82 pounds. I no longer live in pain every day. No more joint pain, no more migraines and no more tummy issues! While looking for new fall treats, Pinterest, showed me your Fudge. When I am looking for a treat, I put a spoonful of almond butter in a bowl and mix in cocoa powder. Sometimes Stevia, Sometimes, Raw Maple Syrup... sometimes a touch of coconut butter. Sometimes I microwave it. and SOMETIMES I spread on a banana sliced in half, lengthwise. Imagine my surprise when I went searching for more recipes on your site and was shocked at how delicious they all sound. Why so shocked and surprised? YOU ARE 15!!!! I have three nieces, that have NO CLUE in the kitchen ages 23, 20 and 16. I have a daughter, 20, that knows easy and simple junk food meals. Tacos Burritos, that sort of stuff. You say, so everyone can be inspired by ME?!?! I say, "I AM INSPIRED BY YOU!" “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” ― Hippocrates

Can I just say what an inspiring story! I can relate to you in that my mother had breast cancer too. So I know how detrimental it must have been for you. Except I was lucky that I still have my grandma so she took care of her.. while I studied abroad. Oh man, the guilt I felt for not being able to be by her side.. Anyways, getting off topic here haha. My mom is okay now and I'm so glad to hear so is yours. And I, too, struggled with unhealthy relationships with food, which I feel affects almost every girl at some point of her life... I would blame the media but then I guess we too have the power and obligation to do something about it and take good care of our own bodies, since afterall you only have one! Anyways, I just wanted to say that you're truly awesome for doing what you're doing at this age that you are! I really, really, sincerely love your blog and your creations. Keep it up and take care! xx

So I, like you, am venturing into the food blogosphere, realizing I need a lifestyle change. I became a vegetarian 3 years ago but am ready to venture into being a vegan. Hi Kelly, thanks for your grain free pasta recipe - but most of all you made me laugh with your guidelines ("Once the pasta is all rolled, cut, and shaped, plunge it into very very very very very well salted boiling water. There is not salt in the dough, so YOU MUST SALT THE WATER. I’M SERIOUS. SALT THE WATER!!!!!!!") and "Eat standing up as finger food" ---- crossed out --- that cracked me up. So much so I took the trouble to read about you and amazed to discover you are a young teenager! and thought I'd let you know you have another fan in a much older age bracket - decades older, you'd call me a grandmother probably! and i live in London, UK. All the very best to you and thanks again for sharing your gift and your lovely spirit!

I just wanted to tell you, you rock! Keep it up, chica. As someone who became caregiver for my mom when I was 12, I can't tell you how proud I am of your strengths, and your headstrong drive! Good luck in all you do, but if this blog is any indication, you are going to have an awesome life! Thanks for the recipes :)

Hey Kelly! I just want to say that your story is so inspiring and I am so proud of you for starting a revoloution and eating healthy at such a young age! I kind of have the same story-hated my body and decided I needed to loose wright. I used to eat TONS of junk food when I was about 12, before I decided to loose weight. I Lost 25 pounds in about 2 or 3 months. Once I got out of that whole situation, I began cooking and eating healthy as well. In fact, I REALLY want to start my own paleo food blog! I do have one question for you-how do you feel you fit in with the rest of the girls our age (15) with eating healthy? People always look at me like I'm a freak and say mean things and it makes it really hard for me to want to keep doing what I am doing; but I'm glad I'm not the only 15 year old girl out there who wants to eat healthy and be healthy! Thanks for reading my long post; you are such an inspiration! Brianna :)

Brianna dear, your comment warmed my heart. I would really love to stay in touch. I totally understand how you feel. I lost my weight quickly too, and at first I felt like no one our age understood the healthy food concept. Now that I'm a bit older and in a bigger school I think more people understand. I would also LOVE to help you with your blog! Please shoot me an email at kelly {at} foodiefiasco.com. Stay strong girl!

Dearest Kelly, You are such an inspiration! Your story, your life, YOUR BLOG. Honestly, words cannot describe how wonderful it is. It is so inspiring to see you living my foodie dream. I have been in love with food, photography, food photography, healthy living/eating and blogs for years. Semi-recently it occurred to me to create a food blog (duh!). I tried several times, and I just wasn't comfortable with it. It didn't make me feel proud or excited. A little while later, I found you and your little site of delicious amazingness. You showed me that it was possible to be 15 and comfortable with your ideas, your writing style, and just being yourself. I can't thank you enough! I created allmylovegrace.wordpress.com "the life and culinary adventures of a young girl". It is so enjoyable to write, and take photos, and cook for my site. I think I have finally found my little slice of heaven. I would be so honored if you stopped by, but I completely understand if you don't. I'm 15 too, and life is sooo crazy. Anyway, thanks again for everything. I simply can't thank you enough. Love, (even though I don't technically know you, I feel like I can say this) Grace

I'm 17 and from a small town in Kentucky. You remind me so much of myself. Growing up I was very self-conscious about my weight. People could say the smallest thing and it would be in my mind for months. I decided to lose weight which, like you, I did. But the way I did it wasn't healthy at all. I practically starved myself and lost 25 pounds in 1 1/2 months. I knew it wasn't healthy but I hated asking for help so I did my own research. I became Paleo and now, as long as it doesn't go against the diet, I eat whatever I want and I can feel happy and confident at the same time. My mom was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis last summer. Since then I have gotten her to drastically change her diet and it's websites like yours that made it possible. I absolutely love what you are doing here. I have always had a passion for cooking which I let go of for awhile and because of your site I have it back. You are an inspiration to me and I want you to let me know if there is ever any way I can help or support you. You're influencing young girls greatly. Thanks.

YOU'RE 16????!!! Wow what an inspiration! To have such a successful blog while still attending high school that's pretty amazing. I'm 23 working full time and I still can't find the time to make all the yummy recipes I see online. I only found you today (at work, I know I'm a bad girl lol) and I want to make every single recipe on this blog. I wish I had the time to make my own blog but life is just too darn busy. You go girl!!!!

Hi Kelly, I have been getting your blog since you were 14. You have always been so inspiring with your new recipes. You always amaze me. I hope your mom is doing well. I just heard a few weeks ago how good dandelion root is good to cure cancer. Also use lemons, the whole lemon. Lemons are cancer curers too. I do hope this is helpful and your mother. Thank you for fun and lovely blog I have loved it every time I receive it.

Kelly, I've been an avid follower of your awesome blog for MANY years, but I had never read your About Me until just now...and I'm so, so glad I did. Thank you so much for sharing your story. Also, my prayers are most definitely with your mom (and you, as you care for her!). I can definitely resonate--I just recently got diagnosed with cystic fibrosis after 19 years of trying to figure out what's wrong with me. Chronic illness sucks. Prayers for strength and healing. Keep on being awesome!

Hi Kelly: I wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your blog and recipes. My two favorite are your coconut bacon and flourless chocolate mug cake -- wow! I have made those over and over. I noticed you haven't posted lately, so I hope that you and your mom are doing well. Best wishes, Christine

Hey, I'm pretty happy to have found your blog! I'm a vegetarian and a pretty big fan of eating healthy...some may call me a health nut! :P I'm so excited to explore more of your blog and read more of your posts. It seems so creative and fun. I'm totally subscribing to your blog! On another note, I do hope your mom is doing well. I lost my grandpa to cancer this year. It's a pretty crappy disease (which is a total understatement).
