Foodie Fiasco Family Party

by Kelly M

Okay. You know that annoying barrier between bloggers and readers? I don’t like it and I want to break it.

I like to think of Foodie Fiasco as a big happy family and not me yammering on about coconut flour and you sitting going like “ugh?” Doesn’t a big happy family who has reunions with REALLY awesome desserts sound way better than “ugh?” That’s what I thought.

If you have not joined the family yet, I would absolutely love it if you would do so by leaving a comment on this page. But, instead of just creating the family and then forgetting about it, I thought we should take it a step further. And then a few steps after that. You know, why not? Exactly.

So the first step in any family reunion party? Ice breakers, of course! (And no, that is not code for a really amazing food item. But I’m flattered you assume I use food code.) I’m going to tell you some things about me, and I would love it if you could tell me some things about you.

You are so very, very special, I think it would be fabulous to express your unique awesomeness in a friendly, welcoming, and delicious setting.

What happened to you today? How is your cat? Do you secretly desire to lead a campaign against alarm clocks? Are you a thorough apple eater? Share these wonderful things!

You know what else would just make my day/week/month? If you shared some amazingness about yourself, and then got a conversation started. Respond to someone else’s amazingness. Remember, this is a friendly and loving place, and all your wonderful positiveness is always always always welcome here.

Wanna hear some of my quirks? …really? Wow, thanks! So without further ado:

Things About Kelly (That’s Me!)

1. I am fourteen years old and I will be a freshmeat in high school next year. Although my new school is a lot bigger than my old school, it is more established and well-resourced and I am very excited to go there.

2. I like to eat. A lot. I am a vegetarian and I do watch my carbs, which makes me just a *little* hard to eat with. (NO! I WANT MY DRESSING ON THE SIDE!) I do try to be as cooperative as I can but… you know.

3. I am a thorough apple eater! When I devour my beautious fuji, the bare core is the only remainder. I love me my apples and I do not intend to waste any part of them.

4. I am a singer and an actor, and I have been one all my life. I used to think those were my only passions, but as my life has progressed, food, this blog, and all of you have made it into my heart. I really love doing this. I really do.

5. My mom just had surgery a few days ago. If you’ve known me awhile, then you know that my mom was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer last year. Since then, she has had three surgeries, chemo, radiation, and is on a pill everyday for the next five years. Luckily, her prognosis is excellent and we have been so lucky with support and love, but it is still difficult. I love my mom more than anything.

Okay, that’s five things about me! Now that I’ve opened up, I want to hear about you. Maybe if you don’t want to say FIVE whole things (arg, counting), one teensy little thing will do the trick and make me smile.

Enjoy!

-Kelly M.

So… tell me something about you! I love you and I want to hear about you! Get talking, let’s get some conversations going! If you don’t, I will keep using unnecessary exclamation marks!

First of all, I wanted to tell you that I will be keeping your mom in my prayers. She is so strong! <3
Second, I still can't believe you are only 14. I love it :D
Here's some about me..
1. I'm pretty tall. I'm about 5'9 & 1/2 so I'm used to being the "giant" in my group of friends.
2. I want to be famous. Modeling or acting is something I would love to do, but if not, I would LOVE to write for a health or fitness magazine :)
3. I want to travel the world. I have way too many places I want to go.
4. I'm obsessed with my puppy. And all dogs, for that matter.
5. I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't really like bacon or cheesecake.

This is awesome! I wanna be a part of the foodie fiasco family since I think you are like the most amazing person EVER – I am so shocked that you are only 14 because your recipes, photos, and blogging is AMAZING.

1. I currently assist my professor in a research lab studying the effects of broccoli and tomato on prostate cancer.
2. I have arthritis (20 when I was diagnosed), it sort of sucks, but I deal with it.
3. I also am an apple eater that makes sure I get every little bit of apple.
4. I recently went pescatarian – only eating fish about 2-3 times a week, so mainly just vegetarian
5. I love to travel, and I’m going to Spain and other countries next summer when I graduate college!

You are too fun! Keep up the amazing posts!

1. I turn twenty tomorrow! Oy, I feel old. Soon I’ll need a walker.
2. I’m a mostly-vegan (but I do make allowances from time to time for spectacular desserts)
3. I love apples too. Except I eat the WHOLE apple, core and all. (Besides the gnarly bit on top which isn’t edible.)
4. I really love music and I play violin.
5. Food and health are my passion. I hope to work in some capacity in health policy to help other people eat better.

This is so fun!! First off I love your posts! I actually had seen coconut flour in the store, but never wanted to buy it until I found your blog, then I bought it specifically to make your recipes and I love it and use it all the time haha!! Also you are awesome, we actually kinda have a couple things in common-ish (according to your 5 things)

Okay here are mine:
1. I am 16 and almost a junior in HS, but I am *still* everyone’s freshman pet, even the freshmen’s freshman pet. Probably cuz I am really short, innocent-seeming, and have such a high-pitched voice my 9th grade math teacher couldn’t hear me unless I made an effort to talk deeply haha!
2. Because of weird family stuff, I am/have been the youngest, oldest, middle, and only child all at the same time depending on who’s house I am at
3. I have a very theatrically involved family. My brother was Gavroche in the national tour of Les Miserables when he was 10, I have danced since I was 5, and all of the kids in my family have been in musical theatre/drama/choir/dance shows and classes at some point
4. I’ve changed my mind about what I want to be when I grow up a million times, but what I know for sure is that I want to make a difference, whether its to one person or the world.
5. I am vegan, and I love to bake. This has caused many of my friends to actually be convinced that many of my vegan baked goods are better than non-vegan baked goods (muah-ha-ha)

4) Cooking is my life and soul

Haha. You think you can’t throw a ball? I may be one of the most uncoordinated people you will ever meet. How did I not know we were freshmeat buddies? We must discuss! After all, us freshies got to stick together! ;)

Great idea, Kelly!! Love it! (I am SO impressed by you…have been since finding your blog, even more so now that I know your age. Being a teacher, I can tell you that you are very mature for 14.)

1. Last September I started working on me, and I’ve lost 135 pounds. I have about 30 more I want to lose.
2. I am a teacher and have been for 14 years. My hubby is also a teacher.
3. I am obsessed with exlamation marks and elipses (you know, the …). I overuse and abuse them often!! I just can’t use one exlamation mark in a sentence.
4. I am eating super low carb. I try to keep my carbs under 20 grams each day. Because of that, I miss fruit. I miss it terribly!!
5. I have two beautiful daughters that I hope to inspire by my lifestyle change. I do not ever want them to have to battle weight issues like I’ve had to.

Glad to get to know some things about you and some others in the “Family.” :)

Thank you so much for your kind words, Ms. Erin! (I’m sorry, had to now that I know you’re a teacher.)

Excuse me. 135 pounds?!? That is absolutely incredible. Don’t ever forget what an amazing accomplishment that is and how strong a person you are. I do hope to meet you one day!
